Champions Dinner (Sp10): Crablegs

The change of venue could have cost us participation or it could be the luster has finally worn off the boys from Manassas.

  • Nicholas DiCrosta of Scared Hitless won the MVP award.
  • Eamon Murray became the first The Gnat to win any kind of award for performance, picking up Rookie of the Year after a strong campaign for both RoY and MVP.
  • Brian Ford picked up his second Cy Young Award despite being the third best pitcher in the league, and the second best pitcher on his own team.
  • Gold Glove Awards were given to Alex Strong of Brosephorous Rex for Fielding, Austin Bernardo of AA for Catching, and Brian Ford for Pitching.
  • Manager of the Year honors went to Kathryn Poindexter of the The Gnats. With the The Gnats turnaround, she might be the most deserving award winner of the lot. Though, as the league’s squeaky wheel for female issues, politics was certainly a factor in the voting and in her acceptance speech.

Despite picking up three of the seven awards, no Scared Hitless members made the dinner. It’s unclear if they had other plans or were dependent on Kyle O’Grady for directions.

League leaders in each of the nine statistical categories were honored with certificates, and the Blandsford Barnburners officially took possession of the Commissioner’s Trophy.

Austin Bernardo, who won the Fielding Triple Crown for a Catcher and has pledged never to play wiffleball again in his life wasn’t able to attend to pickup his crown. It was placed on bucket and photographed next to a complimentary Sam Adam’s in his honor..Natty Ice was not being served.

    Kyle O’GRAVY. Spell it right! Maybe if the dinner wasn’t held the night before a major travel holiday begins we could have been there.

    Between his hitting and pitching, Thaman should’ve won hands down. Another voting atrocity in the PWL.
