Champions' Dinner: Hitless Scores

For the second season in a row, voters took pity on the team that lost the World Series and showered Scared Hitless with season-end hardware.

Patrick Browning manager of Scared Hitless was honored as the Most Valuable Player for leading a team a free agents to the World Series. It was his third nomination and first win.

Rookie of the Year honors went to hitless newcomer Matt Dreyfus who has almost fully recovered from a near career ending face-to-fence collision in the World Series.

The Cy Young Award for pitching excellence was bestowed for the first time now that league pitching rules have changed. Brian Ford completed the Hitless trifecta to take the award home.

Fielding achievement was honored by position, with Gold Gloves going to:

  • Pitching: Brian Ford (Scared Hitless)
  • Catching: Chris Coger (Catalista Revolucion)
  • Fielding: Brett Beyerlin (Catalista Revolucion)

The World Champion Catalista Revolucion were also presented with the league’s second attempt at a take home World Series trophy as the permanent Commissioners’ Trophy is still under construction.

In a controversial moment, Commissioner Gallaway announced that the PWL trading cards for the summer season were delayed due to a dispute between Topps, the company under contract to produce the cards, and the PWLPA (Potomac Wiffleball League Players’ Association). The dispute centers around several legal issues, habeus corpus, ex post facto, and other matters that the PWL refused to comment on.

Some pretty terrible Blackberry photos were taken of winners here: http://www.potomacwiffleball.org/photos/?set=72157608259769067
