OFF SEASON MOVES: Gossip, Trades, and Fresh Meat

8/3Updated Teams and Players List

  • 9 TEAMS (Less than a day left)
  • New Teams: Flea Bitten Varmits, NWO
  • Non-Returning Teams: Alcoholics Anonymous, Blandsford Barnburners, Brosephorous Rex, On the Fence, Rossi Posse
  • Filides finally gets his shit together and will have a team…sorta.

8/2

  • 8 TEAMS
  • Andrew Martin officially signs with Clubber Lang.
  • Alex Filides keeps indicating he has a team, all evidence to the contrary.
  • The Canvassers make some big moves to to try to win their 6th Championship in the 11th Season, adding Jim Shannon, Jack Shannon, and Kris Garcia to their existing line-up.

7/28* Fear and Loathing on the Base Path is back with a new name, Superman’s Wheelchair. Nice guys, nice.

  • News is coming from PWL All Star Kris Garcia that his services are up for grabs after his one season deal with the Posse has expired and talks to stay have broken down. Word is that on the seven plus bus ride to London, OH this Friday both Brian Clapp of the Posse and Commissioner Gallaway of the Canvassers are going to try to recruit him. Garcia is on record as saying “I need some time to decide…any team is a possibility.” His former World Series teammates Bret Beyerlin and Chris Coger are rumored to be returning, but not a peep from their agents and no contracts are finalized. He might be lured away to join them, despite the Commissioner’s promise to “drop him in Shitsville, West Vriginia at a truck stop and see how well his slugging percentage is then” if he doesn’t sign as a Canvasser.

7/11

  • Allison Smith, who jacked two homers as a guest player for the Posse last season signs a one season deal with the The Gnats.
  • Alex Filides confirms he’s forming a team named NWO. We are moist with anticipation for roster sign-ups.

7/1

  • Barnburners officially OUT for the Summer season. Individuals on the team open to guest spots on rosters for Weeks 1-3.
  • Rookie of the Year winner Eamon Murray to stick with the The Gnats, rumored to be taking over field manager duties from Manager of the Year Kathryn Poindexter, who will stay on as the GM.
  • Waddle will waddle back for the Summer, likely without their ace and manager Dan Sullivan.

6/26 – 6 Weeks from Opening Day of the Summer

  • Alex Filides is leaving Clubber Lang…again…will he return…again…unclear. Word on the street is Clubber is looking for a replacement who can be a backup pitcher, hits under .250, and bitches in the locker room.
  • Flea Bitten Varmits (nee Finger Puppet Mafia) through their manager Craig Mann has promised to return for the Summer Season again. They always take the spring season off to watch the NHL playoffs 24/7 cause hockey is cool.
  • It’s looking unlikely the Alcoholics will return, but Andrew Martin’s agent is tossing his name around as a good backup pitcher who hits under .250 and bitches in the locker room.

Nope, not returning to CL. Don’t forget to add best player in this year’s DCS to the resume. That’s 2 springs in a row, I turn it on when it counts baby.

  2. Hot Stove, Jun 27, 11:10 PM:

Rumor has it the barnburners are at risk of losing one of the twins. Inside sources say that cluhouse scuffles involving the two bash brothers had escalated as the season progressed, with on-field altercations throughout the playoffs including in the world series.

Jack had been overheard saying “F*** you, I’ll start my own team” in the Barnburners DCS win over Brosephorous. It has since come out that the injured foot Jim played through during the playoffs was caused by a failed attempt to roundhouse his brother.

It seems as the rumors may be coming true as, according to sources, Jack has been in the process of sending out feelers to other members in the league in forming a new team, rumored to be called the “The Jack Offs”

2 for 11 is turning it on huh?

  4. Nick D, Jun 29, 02:14 PM:

Allison informs me that she would like to enter free agency this wear but will not be doing so for fear she will be drafted by Alex.

  5. umm, Jun 29, 02:15 PM:

    this *year

  6. Eamon, Jun 29, 03:14 PM:

If she wants to play, the Gnats will take her just so I don’t have to pitch to her again. :) But seriously, if she wants to play, we’re looking for another bat.

  7. AF, Jun 29, 04:08 PM:

Nobody wants her Nick…lol. Maybe you have a spot on your team for her, she can be the one that keeps the beers cold. She ain’t playin’ on my team.

  8. BB Nation, Jun 29, 06:32 PM:

BB Nation is checking in to dispel any rumors of a break up. The situation with the Shannon’s was dealt with internally and both are happy to be Barnburners. We also want no part of filides, he’s a quitter and we have a clubhouse rule of no facial hair and shirts at all times.

  9. AF, Jun 29, 08:30 PM:

Ha! I think I’ve become the most hated player since the Brett days.

  10. ND, Jul 1, 12:54 PM:

Nope, I still hate Brett more.

  11. JonG, Jul 3, 02:03 AM:

I agree. Brett Favre is total tool these days. Just be a man and make up you damn mind for once for god’s sake!

  12. AF, Jul 3, 06:10 PM:

Actually there was another Brett that played in our league, which I was referring to……most thought he was quite annoying.

  13. Tony C, Jul 29, 01:07 PM:

I’m really hoping that Garcia comes to the canvassers. I think we have a chance …

  14. Phord, Aug 3, 03:28 PM:

that is bull. i hate Commissioner Steinbrenner.

this matches AF’s douchy glove loophole in the rulebook.

    I THINK WE NEED WAIVERS.

  15. TR, Aug 3, 03:45 PM:

Agreed… We need waivers or a draft.

  16. Eamon, Aug 3, 04:06 PM:

    Concur on waivers/draft.

  17. Jim S, Aug 3, 04:57 PM:

I’ll only be there for a couple weeks to supply unparalleled amounts of power to the canvassers once lifeless lineup. And next spring, I’ll be winning my 3rd straight title with BB nation. As commish pointed on July 1st, “Individuals on the team open to guest spots on rosters for Weeks 1-3”. Canvassers were the only team that came knocking.

  18. AF, Aug 3, 05:06 PM:

Well actually I tried to recruit you, but you never replied, so that actually isn’t true.

  19. AF, Aug 3, 05:12 PM:

However, in your defense, what was done was “by the book”. Every manager had an opportunity to recruit any of the Barnburners for the first three weeks. I have no issue with the commissioner hand picking his team, he didn’t break any rules and he even went out of his way to make it know that these players were available. Again, it’s up to the managers of each team to be on the ball.

  20. Gravy Train, Aug 3, 05:15 PM:

Hello 2001-2008 NY Yankees. Not only will we have the pleasure of beating the Canvassers again, but we also get to rub a bit of BB redemption in there too.

  21. AF, Aug 3, 05:27 PM:

The problem with waivers/draft is it would be a lot harder to form new teams, unless you applied it to players that have played at least one season in the PWL.

  22. KP, Aug 4, 07:25 PM:

I believe I was the first to offer the Barnburners spots for the first half of the season; I did that at the awards dinner that nunyall went to. Maybe they don’t like playing with girls yet?

  23. jack, Aug 5, 01:37 AM:

honesty time: i was only going to accept offers from 3 teams- canvassers, scared hitless, and fear and loathing. why? i want another ring. I hope to fill my hand in five seasons.

and frankly, alex and your new squad is nothing but a roll of the dice. and playing for the gnats and their 7 all time wins is just not going to get me that ring.

so boom. the canvassers won the bidding war (which the other two teams weren’t even aware of)
