Hit or Error?

Brian Ford was perfect for 7.5 innings, but Scared Hitless couldn’t score a single run to give the hurler his 4th perfect game. Brandon Carter ripped a line drive to second in the 8th inning to bust up the perfecto. Hitless held on and ended up winning in the 10th.

A controversial scoring decision in the 8th followed a questionable managerial decision to put Kyle “Hands” O’Grady in the field when Matt Dreyfus had to leave the game early for a pap smear.

Scared Hitless skipper Pat Browning, perhaps to make up for the previously referred to managerial decision, has formally asked Commissioner Gallaway to review the play. The PWL policy is to review scoring decisions upon request, as long as they are submitted within one week of the game. The game was scored by Alex Filides.

At issue is whether the dropped ball by O’Grady would have been caught by an “outfielder at that position making ordinary effort.”

i thought the talk yesterday was about how the OF bobbled the ball three times. looked to me like it went straight to the ground and that maybe it grazed his hand. that’s a hit.

I can’t believe I’m arguing that my fielding play should be ruled an error, but I still think that was my mistake. It’s entirely subjective but nonetheless important that when it happened, I felt stupid for not making that play. I took a bad route to the ball (my fault) and still had it bounce off both my hands (my faultx2). Even if you don’t think the catch was a play I should have made, I touch the ball 3 times (the drop + 2 bobbles) before Brandon gets to first (my faultx3).

The commish has given me errors for much less…

I think if the ball hit the ground and Kyle fielded it cleanly there would have been a play at first base.

I demand the Commissioner’s Office use instant replay in wiffleball!

Siiigh. It looks like a hit to me.

Well it felt like an error to me. Ball bounced off my hands, then I batted it around instead of picking it up cleanly and tossing to you. Regardless of what the boneheaded scorekeeper ruled, it was my error. You kept them hitless through 10.

Maybe O’Gravy can still save the ACLU.
