Were They Perfect?

The newest addition to the PWL, the Blandsford Barnburners, played a one inning run rule game against the The Gnats during week 1, beating them 14-0. In fact, only two of the three batters from the The Gnats made it up to the plate, and both got out.

The question is, with a shortened, run rule game, does it count as a perfect game?

A perfect game is defined by Major League Baseball as “a game in which a pitcher (or combination of pitchers) pitches a victory that lasts a minimum of nine innings and in which no opposing player reaches base.” The PWL equivalent would be a six inning game. While the MLB certainly doesn’t have run rule games, they do have shortened games for weather or other factors, and those clearly would NOT count under their definition.

So should it count here? Did Jacob Tomko do something that has only been done four times in league history, and only once by a single pitcher?

In league history there have been four perfect games, and one no-hitter that wasn’t perfect. Here is a look back at those five games.

what if I was able to throw six?

i don’t mean to sound arrogant in the slightest, but if it helps, if you extrapolate the innings, would I have given up a hit, or if it counts as a technical complete game, shouldn’t it be perfect?

If the MLB’s requirement is 9 innings, than I don’t think ours should count. But Jake does have a point; it was in fact a complete game, and no runner reached base.

I like that I’ve been on both ends of a no-hitter.

I say put Jake in a special category. Run rule no-hitter or something. A one inning run rule game is impressive anyway.

In MLB a pitcher only gets credit for a perfect game if he faces 27 batters without any of them reaching base. I wouldn’t even call it a no hitter. Pitching to 2 batters and not allowing a hit is not at all noteworthy.
