LONDON 2012: PWL Returns with Both Barrels Loaded
Commissioner Gallaway announced rosters today for the two PWL All Star teams that will be returning to London, Ohio, this summer to represent the league at the 2012 London Wiffleball Tournament.
This will be the sixth tournament with PWL representation. The event, the largest slow-pitch wiffleball tournament in the world, will be held Saturday, July 14, 2012.
In 2011 the PWL only sent one team, the Senators. But this year both Nationals and Senators are returning.
Three veterans of previous tournaments will not be joining this season, Tony Cani and Kris Garcia of the Nationals, and Mike Lemaire of the Senators.
Stephen Zigmund is returning after two tournaments away to fill the vacancy in the Nationals lineup and Kevin Higman of the Janitors will be attending his first London tournament as a National.
Ross Duenas filled in as a Senator in 2011 temporarily replacing Jacob Tomko who was briefly ostracized from the PWL, but will return to the Nationals as a founding member of the team.
Matt Dreyfus, who was a National in 2010 is taking over managerial duties for the Senators after a one year stint by Commissioner Gallaway, and will serve as a player/manager for the first time for a PWL team. Commissioner Gallaway returns to manage the Nationals as he has done every season they have played.
The Senators and Nationals have both made deep runs in the tournament, but never broken into the final four teams. This is thanks in large part to the arch nemesis (of both teams) Phillies and their manager/pitcher/left handed home run king Chad Wheeler, the brother of the tournament organizer.
Following the London tournament this year the PWL is one of three leagues hosting the National Wiffle League Association National Tournament. Rosters for the PWL team for that tournament will be announced soon.
