PWL Welcomes President Obama
President Barack Obama visited the Potomac Wiffleball Hall of Fame and headquarters this week as part of his “get to know DC” tour.
Obama toured the Hall of Fame and was impressed with the display of home run balls hit by female players. “Back in Chicago, girls are who you sleep with after the wiffleball game, not who hit home runs during the wiffleball game”, the President quipped. “How do you think I met Michelle?”
Obama never made it to “the show” as a wiffleball player, but he was known to have a wicked curve and the ability to drive the ball to all fields. Though, his teammates said he would often make errors in the field by trying to handle more balls than he could possibly ever reach using the sheer power of hope.
During the campaign, Republicans accused Obama of having used the big red wiffleball bat during his salad days instead of the official thin yellow bat. He put those rumors to rest during the campaign by reminding the American people that it’s not the size of your bat that matters, it’s how you use it.
When asked about the playoffs, the Commander-in-Chief, who is well known for unnecessarily weighing in on sporting events that serve no purpose other than alienating a certain segment of constituents, indicated he won’t be attending any games, but does have a favorite. “I think the Revolucion are poised to defend their World Championship. Like me, they are part black, part white, and sometimes their biggest newsmaker is an Hispanic who is a little loose with the law,” the President said.
When asked about the chances for Western Division Champions and flavor of the month media darlings Clubber Lang, the President said “Clubber, who?”.
Commissioner Gallaway said after the President had left that he was honored to give him a tour of the Hall and league offices and be able to chat one-on-one with the most powerful man in the world. “President Obama was so thoughtful to stop by, and we were able to talk about ways in which the league can work with the White House to help to fix the economy, solve the environmental crisis, make sure everyone has health care, and most importantly, figure out how to deal with the new pitching imbalance that developed this season,” Gallaway said.
The Potomac Wiffleball Hall of Fame is open daily Monday through Friday, and is the second most visited attraction at the Woodley Park metro stop behind the Zoo.
