Player of the Week (Su10): Week 4 Nominations
written by Commissioner Gallaway
Any time a pitcher gets nominated you know hitting wasn’t that great this week. Mr. Party could be poised to win two in a row, but we do have to let you vote anyway.
VOTES ARE DUE AT NOON ON FRIDAY
- Brian Ford (Scared Hitless) – Ford spent the first two weeks of the season hooking up with 65 year old roadies and was still sleeping one off causing him to miss most of Week 3. However, Week 4, he finally showed up. He pitched 16 scoreless innings, threw two one-hit gems, and struck out 17 batters, albeit against teams who can’t hit for dick. He’s moved on the league leaders list in OBA and ERA following those performances, and his team finally won two games they were supposed to win, something they hadn’t done without him.
- Pat Hook (Superman’s Wheelchair) – Hook becomes the third Wheelchair player nominated this season. He hit two dingers and drove in three runs, batting .500 and slugging 2.000 in the Wheelchair victory. They only had one game this week, which is why Hook sneaks onto the list with only four AB’s.
- Nicholas West (Mr. Party’s Waddle) – West gets his second nomination of the season and is a stone’s throw, (or rather 6 singles) away from a Batting Triple Crown. His three homers and five driven in led Waddle to upset the unbeaten NWO and cruise by the cellar dweller Varmints. For the weekend he hit .455 and slugged 1.273. He had as many strikeouts as he did homers, so he probably doesn’t like to run the bases. He only got 34% of the vote when he was nominated in Week 1, but at that time we all thought his numbers were a fluke.

Player of the Week (Su10): Week 3

John Cain pulled out a come from behind victory to win Player of the Week honors for Week 3. The Waddle manager hit three dingers with the wind at his back to get his first nomination. The race was one of the closest in league history.

Player of the Week (Su10): Week 3 Nominees
written by Commissioner Gallaway
Week 3 was one of those weeks without breakout performances and our mixed bag of nominees reflects that. We like to nominate players who help their teams to victory, and sometimes that’s hard when they lose more games than they win.
VOTES ARE DUE AT NOON ON FRIDAY
- John Cain (Mr. Party’s Waddle) – Cain is the last person anyone would ever expect to get a POTW nomination, but he claims one this week. Since the voters love an underdog, and Cain is probably a better organizer than slugger, we wouldn’t be surprised if he wins. The newly minted manager of the Waddle hit three home runs and slugged 1.182 on his way to 1-1 week for his team. They gave Superman’s Wheelchair a run and almost beat the undefeated team, but a walkoff homer stole it from them.
- Aaron Christoff (Superman’s Wheelchair) – A second consecutive nomination for Christoff this week as his three doubles and a home run have him slugging 1.250. He didn’t get the hero shot to keep Wheelchair one of the two undefeated teams, and his hits didn’t come at opportune times for scoring, but he still snags a spot this week.
- Tony Ragano (Clubber Lang) – Ragano made a serious dent in his “man of honor” street cred by being a sore loser this week. Fortunately, the video footage of his childish antics have been sealed in the PWL archives. A second loss to Division rival and former teammate traitor NWO is what caused his issues. Despite that, Clubber picked up their first win and behind Ragano and free agent Andrew Martin (who just missed qualifying for a nomination with only 6 AB’s) might be building for another late season run and ticket to the post-season. Ragano homered twice, slugged 1.250 and didn’t have a single strikeout…and his team could have been 2-0…if only he’d have picked up that ball.

Jim Shannon of the Canvassers won Player of the Week honors for Week 2. A first for who many consider the “lesser” Shannon.

Wind and rain caused problems for everyone, but especially for the pitchers. Pitcher ejection after ejection were followed up with home run balls that almost made it to the Potomac with a little help from the wind.
VOTES ARE DUE AT NOON ON FRIDAY.
- Aaron Christoff (Superman’s Wheelchair) – Christoff followed up on Superman’s Wheelchair teammate Joe Thaman’s week 1 honors with some numbers of his own. Wheelchair went 2-0 to keep the best record in the PWL behind Christoff’s 3 doubles, 2 homers, and 4 runs driven in. He slugged 1.000 and hit .400.
- Nicholas DiCrosta (Scared Hitless) – DiCrosta bitched almost as bad as his girlfriend about having to play Sunday, but hitting for the cycle on the day, including 2 doubles, a triple and 2 homers gave him a 1.700 slugging percentage and a .700 average. He drove in 4 runs as Hitless maintained their lead in East by going 2-0.
- Jim Shannon (Canvassers) – Shannon made his summer season debut as a Canvasser and picked right up where he left off in the spring, jumping into the home run race with 4 homers, and 6 RBI. He slugged 2.429 and batted .714 as the Canvassers went 2-0 to even to .500 for the seasons.

Player of the Week (Su10): Week 1 Nominees

Pitcher’s often complain they are overlooked in the POTW nominations, but this week, all three nominees not only had outstanding offensive performances they all happen to lead their teams to victory from the mound too.
VOTES ARE DUE BY FRIDAY AT NOON
- Alex Filides (NWO): We hate to nominate Filides almost as much as you hate voting for him. The player with the most nominations to never win, Alex ended up pissing off his only defenders in the league when he split from his previous team, only to end up division rivals with them. It didn’t take long for them to meet-up, the first game of the season, and round 1 of 4 went to Filides. Striking out Ragano four times and hitting a walk off homer in extra innings to draw first blood. He added another homer and three doubles in the second game. On the mound he seemed to find something he didn’t have in relief last season, striking out a league leading 18 batters on his way to an NWO 2-0 start. This won’t hold up, the luster will wear off quickly, but he deserves a nomination this week for the strong start.
- Joseph Thaman (Superman’s Wheelchair): Thaman’s two homers and two doubles helped roll Superman’s Wheelchair into a 2-0 start. When you add in the other three singles, he’s the toughest out in the PWL, leading the league with a .778 average. Even more impressive is his pitching; with league leading ERA and OBA numbers. Not to mention the pitching performance was partly against last season’s World Series runner up Scared Hitless, who he held to just two hits. The crafty lefty also struck out 15 on the day. Thaman and his team aren’t rookies anymore, don’t expect them to miss out on post-season action this Summer, especially if his arm and bat hold up.
- Nicholas West (Mr. Party’s Waddle): In five games last season West hit one home run and hit .316. Almost the definition of an average PWL player. However, his Week 1 performance at the plate was anything but average. The Waddle only had one game to open the season, but he hit three dingers in six at-bats to get the penguins off to a 1-0 start. Apparently he also pitches, getting the win and striking out four with a 2.00 ERA. We wouldn’t recognize West if he was wearing a name tag in a lineup, but if he keeps this up, that could change.

Player of the Week (Sp10): Week 7
written by Commissioner Gallaway
Eamon Murray of the The Gnats won Player of the Week honors for Week 7 in a hotly contested vote. He won with 231 votes to Nicholas DiCrosta’s 228 votes. It was the rookies first nomination and win.
DiCrosta has asked the league to look into voting irregularities and potentially do a recount. When asked for comment, Commissioner Gallaway said, “that’s the kind of remark I’d expect from Ragano.”

Player of the Week (Sp10): Week 7 Nominees
written by Commissioner Gallaway
The last keychain of the season and final invite to the Lexus President’s Club at a Nationals game is up for grabs. A couple of automatic nominations this week with a Perfect Game (two weeks in a row by the same player no one will vote for) and a player hitting for the cycle, maybe twice.
VOTES ARE DUE BY FRIDAY AT NOON
- Paul Costello (Brosephorous Rex): Costello tossed his second perfect game of the season, in a second consecutive week, beating the Alcoholics. Costello struck out 6 on the day with an OBA of .200. He got roughed up by the Barnburners, but none of this really matters because you’re not going to vote for him. Maybe he deserves it, maybe he doesn’t, but you don’t care. You simply just don’t like him. It’s probably because he’s better than you.
- Nicholas DiCrosta (Scared Hitless): DiCrosta has won 3 keychains, and has been nominated 7 times. This week, his lady friend, who became only the 4th female player to bomb a home run, then did it again a few innings later, probably should have taken his place on this list. Unfortunately there is no affirmative action in the PWL. While Ms. Allison Smith certainly made a statement, and certainly is better than Nick deserves, her numbers just don’t hold up. DiCrosta hit 3 dingers, slugged 2.600 and hit .800. He drove in four runs to edge out Jim Shannon (the twin who wasn’t puking by the trees) for the final spot this week.
- Eamon Murray (The Gnats): Murray has been touting his pitching skills all season trying to get a nomination. This week though he finally gets it for his hitting. Sure, he had some weak opponents, but you can’t argue with the numbers: AVG .625, SLG 1.375, 2 2B, 2 3B, 2HR with 5 driven in. There is a scoring dispute pending to see if he actually hit for the cycle twice in one game, or fell one double short. The homers, triples, and singles are for sure. But, the tape will be reviewed on the second double.

Tony Ragano of Clubber Lang gets the keychain for Week 6. It’s Ragano’s fifth win, breaking him out of a three way tie for second on the all time POTW win list. Only Stephen Zigmund, at seven, has more keychains.
Ragano was a controversial “squeaky wheel” nomination, but the voters still preferred him by a large majority over the two other nominees. As they should, since he’s related to most of them.
