Player of the Week (Sp09): Week 7 Nominees
With the close of the regular season, this is last week of voting for weekly honors. Year end awards such as Most Valuable Player, the Cy Young Award, and Rookie of the Year wil be voted on after the playoffs.
We have four nominees this week…not that we like breaking our own rules…but it became a tradition that if you tossed a perfect game, you got a nomination. That was before perfect games became more common than STD’s in the league locker room. However, to honor it, we nominated both pitchers for their accomplishment even though we didn’t want to. If you want to consider them each a one-half nominee, we’re ok with that.
- Votes are Due at NOON on FRIDAY.
Week 7 Nominees:
- Matt Dreyfus (Scared Hitless): Dreyfus had a strong Week 4 and returned to form this week mounting a late challenge to the home run title. He hit seven homers and drove in twelve runs as Scared Hitless picked up two important wins then celebrated with a champagne (or was it sparking wine) shower.
- Kris Garcia (Catalista Revolucion): Garcia was under pressure and needed RBI and Home Runs to grab the Triple Crown title this week, and he answered. He hit five homers and drove in twelve to lead the league in all categories. As an added bonus, he was perfect in six innings pitched, though two run-rule games didn’t count as an official perfect game.
- Tony Ragano (Clubber Lang): Ragano gets his third nomination of the season for tossing his second perfect game of this year. He struck out eight and only gave up one hit as Clubber Lang won their final two games.
- Jacob Tomko (Blandsford Barnburners): Tomko tossed his second perfect game of the season this Sunday against the Canvassers. He struck out ten batters, and only gave up four hits, which was barely enough to help his team win two games considering he was 1 for 11 in the batters box.
