Week 6 (Sp08): Perfect
Perfect weather, perfectly non-lethal arsenic, and a perfect game make the return of the PWL to Ft. Reno for Week 6, well…perfect.
The only downside, (to be expected, but not accepted), are the forfeits. Two teams failed to show on our triumphant return…reports of their hospitalizations were greatly exaggerated.
The Mega Maids tossed a perfect game to start the festivities off right beating the Rossi Posse 3-0. This is the fourth perfect game in league history and the first at Ft. Reno. The last one was recorded just over a year ago on May 13, 2007, as Big Red Bat was perfect against Good Sportsmanship (now Wackazoids).
Brett Beyerlin, who pitched two innings in the Maid’s victory was almost charged with an error in the bottom of the 6th on a fly foul ball, but after review the official scorer determined the ball was uncatchable due to people, bats, balls, and gatorade. Also, he had to dive and roll. Beyerlin, who is incoherent even in casual conversation, was unavailable for comment to the press.
The game ball was signed by the Mega Maids and will find a home in the PWL Hall of Fame.
The four teams headed to the playoffs were also decided.
Updated Standings
In the East it’s the Canvassers and Free Agents, with the Canvassers holding home field advantage. In the West, the Mega Maids and Rated ‘E’ will face off, with the Mega Maids holding a one game lead for home field, but Week 7 will finalize. In a preview of the postseason, the Mega Maids made quick work of Rated ‘E’ today beating the 3-0.
Home field advantage is especially important this year in the playoffs as the home team gets to pick the field for Games 1 and 3 of the series, as well as bat last.
