World Series (Sp08): Canvassers Win Series in 3

The Canvassers lost the first game but beat the Mega Maids in games two and three to clinch their fourth World Championship in six seasons and defend their title from Summer 2007.

The Canvassers had lost two games in the regular season to the Mega Maids and came into the series statistical underdogs. The Canvassers finally found their stroke at the plate after a long season with two of the team’s starters hitting below .200.

Leading candidate for Rookie of the Year Chris Coger of the Mega Maids struggled under the post-season pressure, hitting only .176, 200 points lower than the closest other player, and sporting a 7.0 ERA from the mound.

Kris Garcia hit four homers, matching Stephen Zigmund, including a walk-off homer that won Game 1 for the Mega Maids and broke a 3-3 tie. Except for the walk-off, the only time the Canvassers trailed in the three game set was after a Mega Maids three run second inning in Game 2.

Veteran post-season umpires Kevin Hyde and Brian Clapp called the game which was not without controversy. Wall flower Brett Beyerlin was upset with three calls by Clapp. Admittedly, Clapp had downed two beers by the middle of the second game, but there were no calls that would have changed the outcome.

Every player in the series hit a home run, a PWL first.
