It sprinkled, but didn’t pour, as the PWL completed the Spring 2009 Regular Season today.
Kris Garcia of Catalista Revolucion shocked the wiffleball world by winning the batting triple crown, leading the league in batting average, home runs, and runs batted in for the season. He is the third player to to accomplish the feat. He held of a challenge from Jack Shannon and a last minute home run surge by Matt Dreyfus to capture the crown.
Dreyfus wasn’t just a bridesmaid though, he did win the fielding triple crown in the catcher position. This is our first fielding triple crown winner, but we’ll probably start a tradition and call that the gold glove award. Sure, no one cares about fielding, but stats are stats.
Jacob Tomko and Tony Ragano each tossed perfect games. Their second perfecktos of the season, but perfect games are more common than triples now.
The playoff matchups are set, though the league is still working out the schedule for postseason, which may require some night games.
The Blandsford Barnburners will host either the Catalista Revolucion or Canvassers in a best of three game series in one Divisional Championship Series. The Revolucion and Canvassers ended the regular season with the same record, and Catalista will have home team honors for a special one game tiebreaker to see who makes it to the postseason.
Scared Hitless will host Clubber Lang in the other best of three game Divisional Championship Series.
