6 Innings with Dan Dondero

This week, we’re chatting with Dan Dondero, manager of the Masterbatters. In addition to giving the MB’s their clever name, Dan’s got something to say about everything. His witty remarks, someone once said, have their own witty remarks. He stance, like his personality is long and narrow. He kind of looks like a long-neck beer bottle, and he’s not unfamiliar with it’s contents.

Name: Dan Dondero

Age: 26
Hometown: Mo’ Plains, NJ
Resides: Arlington, VA
Employer: US Trade and Development Agency
Seasons: Spring 2006, Summer 2006, Spring 2007

TWIF: What is your favorite baseball team and who is your favorite baseball player of all time?
DD: Buttermaker of the Bad News Bears. He’s my inspiration as a manager.

TWIF: What is your favorite thing about Wiffleball?
DD: It’s better than scratchin my ass on a Sunday mornin’.

TWIF: Have you ever used a Wiffleball bat for anything other than its intended purpose?
DD: A Wiffleball bat is made for swingin’ and hittin’, that gives me A LOT of leeway. So to answer your question . . . no.

TWIF: Who is the player in the league you’d most like to see get hit by a car while chasing a foul ball?
DD: The more players who get hit the better. Forfeits = W’s.

TWIF: Work it or Own it?
DD: Need I remind you that I have 3 HRs lifetime? Own it. Wiffleball’s my bitch.

TWIF: The Masterbatters might be a team that has finally turned the corner. While it’s always been great to have you in the league, you’ve always just been filling a hole in the schedule. Not expecting to win, and not expected to win. This year, things are different. If you can tell us one thing that you think has gone right, what is it?
DD: A casual observer might suggest that the addition of Joe Gortenberg is the secret to our success, but they’d be wrong. They’d also likely be figments of the Commissioner’s imagination, the PWL doesn’t have any observers, casual or otherwise.
