World Series Game 2 (Su2007)
written by Commissioner Gallaway
The 2007 Summer World Series featured the Drinkers with a Hitting Problem and the Canvassers. The Drinkers and Canvassers both came out of the Eastern Division, where the Drinkers had clinched the divisions by beating the Canvassers twice during the regular season. The Canvassers made the playoffs as the wildcard and won the series 2 games to 0. Game 2 was an up and down affair until the end.

London 2007: Sluggers at Nationals
written by Commissioner Gallaway
The second game of pool play in the 2007 London Wiffleball Tournament was a defensive duel through four and a half innings. On the smaller tree field, the key to the game was robbing homers from the other team. The Nationals robbed one more than the Sluggers…the one they needed.
Scoreless through four and half, in the bottom of the final inning Nationals ace Tony Cani looked to continue his clutch home run hitting with a one-out walk-off blast. However, the tree in center field had other ideas and the ball was knocked down for just a single. The next batter, the slumping Ross Duenas saw his bat come alive to hit a two-run shot that the tree had no chance of knocking down.
After that, the bats stayed alive the rest of the day.

London 2007: Cardinals at Nationals
written by Commissioner Gallaway
The 2007 London Wiffleball Tournament opened with a heartbreaker for the PWL All-Stars, playing as the Washington Nationals against the veteran Cardinals.
An early lead, good pitching performance by Tony Cani, punctuated by his solo homer in the bottom of the 5th to push it to extra innings, and some spectacular fielding by Joe Gortenburg and Stephen Zigmund weren’t enough, as the Nationals dropped the opener 6-5 in extras.
It would be their only loss in the shortened tournament.

Week 4 Special Video: Masterbatters at Borg
written by Commissioner Gallaway
During Week 4, the Borg needed seven innings to beat the Masterbatters. Now, they face each other in a special one game playoff to determine who wins the Wildcard and moves on to the Divisional Championship Series.
A couple of questionable calls, including a complicated double play in the top of the sixth, make for a wild finish after a slow and boring first five innings. Mindie Reule is one strike away from a Borg loss when she rips a single to drive in they tying run. For good measure, she does the same thing in the seventh to win the game.
If the playoff game is as exciting as this regular season game, you won’t want to miss it.

Girls Can Too...
written by Commissioner Gallaway
Mindie Reule, Borg, starts off her game during Week 3 by knocking a home run over the right field fence. It is only the second out-of-the-park home run ever hit by a female player, and the first since 2005.
If you don’t watch her celebration dance at the end, you can’t say you’ve seen the video.

Spring 2007, Week 2 - Game of the Week
written by Tony Cani
Week 2 of the 2007 Spring Season of the Potomac Wiffleball League saw an exciting match up between perennial cellar-dweller turned playoff hopeful Masterbatters and the Summer 2006 World Series Runner-Up Coconut Cowboys.
Extra innings, a handful of ill-timed errors, excellent plays by catchers on behind the plate pops, and even an exciting bases loaded double play make this low scoring affair the most “thrilling” of week 2.
The Cowboys barely win this one in extra innings 2-1 when 2006 Batting Triple Crown winner Ross Duenas batted himself home in the bottom of the seventh to win the game.
Game of the Week is a new feature that the PWL “New Media Director” Tony Cani will post every Wednesday following game play. We are one week behind and the week 3 video should be up soon.

Spring 2007 - Week 1
written by Commissioner Gallaway
Stephen Zigmund, who usually only shows up to play in the post-season, hits four homers and drives in six as the defending World Champs open their season against the woeful Masterbatters. Will it be enough for him to drop the nagging title, “Best Player Never to Win Player of the Week”?
